A selection of work by New York City-based painter Amanda Ba. Born in Ohio to first-generation Chinese American parents, Ba spent the first five years of her life with her grandparents in Hefei, China. Her recent paintings—in which monumental nude figures, often after the artist’s image, inhabit uncanny interiors and evocative urban environments—combine realism and fantasy to explore issues of desire and sexuality, capitalism, nationalism, and diasporic memory through lenses of queer and post-colonial thinking.
