The fog of memory – 3×3 Merit Award Series

The Fog of Memory is a four-part illustration series about memory, loss, and role reversal between mother and daughter.
Inspired by caring for my mother with Alzheimer’s, the story begins when she leaves the door open and our cat disappears—a quiet accident that becomes a metaphor for fading memory.
I portrayed my mother as a little girl, while the older girl takes on the role of caregiver. The cat becomes a symbol of memory: fragile and hard to hold.
Through misty forests and glowing lakes, a girl searches for what’s lost. The cat becomes memory itself: elusive, but not gone. Even as things slip away, love lingers in softer forms. This project is both a personal reflection and a gentle visual meditation on loss and enduring connection. In the fog of memory, I found not only sorrow—but also the quiet light of reconciliation.
