Wes Aderhold – Collapse of the Curated Self

This series confronts the collapse of the curated within the very environments that produced it: the suffocating polish of suburbia and the hyper-performance of the digital feed. Layers of paint, charcoal and pastel create figures of contradiction at their moment of their rupture. Through a reinvention of cubism, fragments are reassembled into forms that expose the toll of identity under constant surveillance. What emerges is not portraiture but a reckoning - a confrontation with the psychic violence of performing a self until it breaks.
